In the Eagles-Chiefs mic’d up video, at one point a few players on the Eagles defense say that they broke the postseason record for most turnovers. However, while the Eagles forced an impressive 13 turnovers, it is not the postseason record. The record is 19, held by the 1977 Cowboys (per statmuse). The Eagles still had a very productive postseason in terms of forcing turnovers, as they tied a few other teams for the 21st century record, and the last team to force 13 turnovers in a single postseason was the 2008 Arizona Cardinals.

Also, I haven’t been able to find anything on turnover differential in a single playoff, so I did my own research using the above statmuse query and Pro Football Reference. Below are the 24 teams that forced at least 12 turnovers in a single playoff:

Team G FR Int Takeaways Giveaways TO diff. Champ
1957 Lions 2 4 8 12 5 7 Y
1969 Chiefs 3 3 10 13 5 8 Y
1970 Cowboys 3 6 6 12 5 7 N
1977 Cowboys 3 10 9 19 7 12 Y
1978 Steelers 3 8 6 14 10 4 Y
1978 Oilers 3 5 8 13 11 2 N
1978 Cowboys 3 4 9 13 10 3 N
1980 Eagles 3 6 6 12 9 3 N
1980 Raiders 4 4 10 14 4 10 Y
1982 Dolphins 4 3 14 17 11 6 N
1982 Jets 3 4 9 13 12 1 N

2002 Bucs 3 4 9 13 4 9 Y
2006 Colts 4 6 7 13 9 4 Y
2008 Cardinals 4 4 9 13 5 8 N
2024 Eagles 4 7 6 13 1 12 Y

A few observations:

  • The 2024 Eagles tied with the 1977 Cowboys, the 1991 Redskins, and the 1998 Broncos for the second-best postseason turnover differential at +12; the 1992 Cowboys hold the record at +13
  • Of the teams on the list, the 1992 Cowboys had the best turnover differential per game at +4.33. At +3 per game, the Eagles are tied with the 2002 Bucs for the second-highest turnover differential per game mark among 21st century teams that played at least 3 postseason games. The 21st century team with the best per game turnover differential (min. 3 games) is not on the list above; the 2004 Patriots had 11 takeaways and 1 giveaway in 3 games for a mark of +3.33 per game
  • The 1977 Cowboys hold the record for most takeaways at 19, and among teams that played at least two games, they have the most takeaways per game at 6.33. The only other team to play at least two games and force 6 takeaways per game is the 1957 Lions. Among 21st century teams that played at least three games, the 2002 Bucs have the most takeaways per game at 4.33
  • 14 out of the 24 teams on this list won the championship. 10 out of the 11 teams on this list with a turnover differential of +9 or greater won the championship; the exception is the 1986 Redskins.
