Just a bit of a rant because I’m absolutely sick of being viewed as nothing more than a fuck doll by the majority of men online. I’m used to encountering this crap on general social media sites and in online games, but recently I posted on LinkedIn because I am being made redundant and asked my connections to get in touch if they have any job opportunities and I have been FLOODED with messages from men acting as if I’m offering my body rather than trying to use a supposedly employment-focused space to find a new job. I had one guy say that I’m the first woman he has ever messaged and that he can’t stop thinking about me as if those two things mean I should be flattered and honour his disgusting advances.

I am a professional woman, my profile is professional and I have done nothing to suggest that I want these advances, yet I’m still viewed as nothing more than a vessel for someone’s penis. LinkedIn is the last place I would have expected this and I am tired of it. I’m at a very vulnerable place in my life and the redundancy has knocked my confidence, so being reduced to a piece of meat on a site where others are respected for their professional credentials is the last thing I needed. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
