Spoilers for Mare of Easttown, discussion of suicide:
In Mare of Easttown, the main character tells a therapist the story of her son’s suicide. She describes how when she got him down, his weight was such that she couldn’t hold them up and collapsed under him. While there are brief flashback clips, this specific aspect isn’t shown. At the resolution of the show, she comforts her best friend, whose entire life has been destroyed by the events of the show. She embraces her, and her friend’s despair is so strong that she collapses against her, bearing them both to the floor. It visually mirrors the events that the main character had only previously verbally described and is extremely impactful in the juxtaposition.
