I (27f) started addressing my emails to the woman first before the man in all of my correspondence. For example, when I am sending an email to a couple I will put “To Emma and Steve” as opposed to the man first. I don’t put Mrs and Mr as I know it doesn’t sound right, it is simply when I am addressing them by their first names.

Anyway I was pulled into a meeting today to discuss this as apparently it is “not the correct way to address clients”. After asking why it was more appropriate to put the man first, they immediately backtracked and told me it wasn’t that important (okay Jeff but it was important enough for you to bring me into a formal meeting). The whole ordeal was just mind blowing to me.

I would just love to know if it was my two male bosses that noticed this or if one of my male clients called to complain about it as clearly they are more important and should be addressed first. I will probably never know this information but either way seems plausible.
