Leaving work yesterday with my son in a stroller and there was a protest/rally outside my building (this is a regular occurrence based on my work’s location) blocking the sidewalk. I look for the best possible route to navigate, make eye contact with an older Pakistani man blocking my way and politely say Excuse Me and I try to pass through. He stepped back but not far enough because I accidentally ran his foot over with one of the wheels. He immersed then proceeds to grab me by the wrist to try to stop me from moving and tells me to watch it. I didn’t mean to but the act of being touched, and like I was his property he could direct, by a stranger and the fact that I have to routinely navigate crowds just to get out of work set me off. What I wish I had said is, Don’t touch me! What came out was, then fucking move! Not my best moment but fuckkk I know that he wouldn’t have tried that if I were a man.
And the number of men who feel the need to touch you when trying to get through somewhere is infuriating. You cannot tell me you would be touching a man’s hips, back, shoulders, stomach, when trying to get by each other.
