I stumbled over the The Walking Dead-subreddit today and while it wouldn’t be near my Top 5 or probably Top 10 tv-shows (all seasons) i could not imagine not knowing Rick and Co. Similar to Tony Sopranos, Sherlock, Cersei etc. even people who haven’t watched thus shows have heard their names. And watching the show really was an event for me and friends. We talked abour the episodes etc.
I just realised that i really haven’t had a show like this in a long time. Some shows come close, but only if they release the episodes weekly, with tv shows that maybe weren’t hyped, but at least felf like an event for me.
The earlier seasons of Game of Thrones come to mind as the last truly hyped show (I’ve heard great things about HotD S1, not about S2). The Penguin/TLOU/Stranger Things/Wednesday etc. ard hyped during their airtime, but then they don’t continue for another two years and instead of a continuous excitement you get one binge or 2 months of hype again. Also some of this shows only being at season 1, so it doesn’t feel the same. The Bear/Sucession are hyped when I look at specific online spaces (here or twitter), but not in a way that people in my friends circle know what I’m talking about.
With that in mind I wonder: When was the last time you felt hype regarding a show, not only by yourself but also in your offline circle? The show everyone talked about (for years). Where you had to mute words on twitter!
