I want to preface this by saying that I have been through pretty much every kind of harassment you can imagine. I have been catcalled in the street, grabbed at by men in clubs, assulted by my best friend of 4 years and raped by a former teacher multiple times. I really have been put through the ringer and I haven’t even turned 20 yet. Predators always seem to find me and I honestly can’t take it anymore.

I live in Europe and every summer the last few years I worked at a theater festival and I absolutely adore that entire experience. The people are great, the plays are great and I get experience in the industry I want to work in. At the end of every festival there is a big party for everyone who worked on it. During the party, a few of us were standing around a table. My two bosses, both of which were female, 3 tech guys and me. One of the tech guys starts talking about me and how bubbly and gooffy I am and how much of a good worker I am and how in a few years I’ll be leading the festival and everything he’d said up to that point was great and a compliment and then he just adds to the list of compliments “such a beutiful young woman like you with big beautiful tits…” Just drops that in the middle of his rambelings like it’s nothing. He said it so fast that no one had a chance to react. I was so shocked that I barely comprehended it.

I know that it’s a small stupid throwaway comment, but it really hurt me. That’s an inappropriate comment to say to anybody, even more so to a girl he met when she was 17 years old. I felt humiliated and degraded in front of people I respect and hope to work with someday. I always keep my guard up when I go out, but I genuinely felt safe at that party because I thought that even though we were celebrating, everyone there was a professional adult.

I just feel so defeated, I honestly don’t even know what to do. I have been reduced to my body and treated with no respect since I can remember. That summer job was one of the only places left where I felt safe and now even that has been taken away from me. I just want to wave a little white flag to the predators of the world and say “you’ve won, you’ve successfully broken me, now please just leave me alone”
