I heard someone saying proudly , " I denied a job to a qualified pregnant woman cause we had to meet the deadline soon and she might take a month or so of maternity leave, hence I hired a slightly less qualified man in that position and lied to my supervisor saying she wasn’t qualified enough for the job".
Firstly, I ain’t no business personal but is one month of maternity leave so much to provide? In that sense do they even fire women when they get pregnant?
There are a lot of single mothers there, how would they be able to provide their kids in such a circumstance?
We talk about gender equality in terms of equal share of household and childcare but no one asks a man if you have a pregnant wife before hiring him cause “well a man got nothing to do with that shit, it’s all the woman’s responsibility”… … (Paternity leave is dead after all).
Is there any practical way to deal with this
