This show really resonated with me as someone who is studying graphic design at a small college out of state. Sometimes it feels like I’m on Mars in the sense that I don’t have a connection to the area around me and it feels like my school actively discourages going off campus. I feel like I’m isolated except for the people around me and really felt the scenes where Jeff is just laying around.

I really felt terrible when that big montage came up and you seem him start to get it together only to slip back into his old ways. In college my job is to learn, but at the same time it feels like I don’t have a real purpose. It’s all in the future. So in a sense it feels like college is the sleep tank until I wake up to go do my real job. I’m just floating by.

I really do appreciate the moments in the show where Jeff found genuine friendship and respect from people. I feel like I could use a Jax where I’m at. I will say the ending has me feeling conflicted. Maybe I’m trying to apply something too deeply, but him leaving the colony makes me wonder what the show is trying to say about corporate lifestyles. Should we leave it all behind and instead choose to build something of our own?

Either way I feel like Jeff found some sense of purpose at the end and that’s encouraging. I know there’s prob not going to be a second season, but I really hope we would’ve gotten to see Jeff come into his own and reconnect with people.
