It feels like this a pretty hot take based on what I’ve been reading all over the Internet, but I don’t think the general trend of TV shows becoming shorter and simultaneously taking longer to produce is a big deal. Films take 2+ years to make and end up being about 2 hours long. If TV seasons take 2 years now, that’s still around 8 hours of content for the same production length. Not to mention the general increase in quality of television as a result of the extended production length. To put it simply, I think TV now is just more consistently high-quality than it used to be, with filler episodes being almost a thing of the past (for non-cable programs). If I was given the choice between getting a season of TV one year earlier and the quality of said season being twice as high, I’d take the latter in a heartbeat. I know that this is not always the case (looking at you, Stranger Things), but generally, I see longer production time as a good thing. What are your thoughts on this?
