I couldn’t post this on the wire sub so i’m just gonna do it here. The show is truly a masterpiece and I’m glad I took the time to watch it. I have a lot of thoughts so I’ll just quickly list some of them; I apologise in advance for the lack of coherence.

-The cast is perfect. I just love every single character, every single perfomance (except maybe brother mouzone). There is no main character in the traditional sense and each character gets their turn in the spotlight. I never had trouble keeping track of any character, that’s how good the characterisation was. Omar and Avon are probably my favourites. The characters weave in and out of the story so naturally. Like in the last season we get to see where past characters are, and it’s executed so well it doesn’t feel forced.

-I like how each season focuses on different aspects of the city. Though I don’t think the last season really delved into print media like previous seasons did their respective areas.

-I like how the show is grounded in realism. The realism doesnt act as a barrier to the storytelling but elevates it. This is a show where you can say “that’s just what happens in real life” and have it not feel like a cop out. It makes the events of the show even more tragic.

-Sooo many emotional moments man… Wallace, D’Angelo, all those kids (fuck Herc). Each season found a new way to break my heart. But at least Bubbles got a happy ending all things considered.

-The show has a lot going on and you really have to pay attention. The way they balance all these storylines is done so well. There’s so many moving parts and it could have easily been a mess in less capable hands. I think I’ve only seen early GoT do it as good as the wire (speaking of, I didn’t realise at first that Carcetti was played by the same guy as Littlefinger).

-My favourite seasons were 1, 3 and 4, followed by 5 and lastly 2. I really wish the second season clicked with me but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the others. It’s still great though.

-I’ll definitely rewatch the show at some point. Also has anyone seen The Deuce from the same creator. Is it good?
