Sure I really enjoy the remake series from the mid 2000’s but I still really love the original series it’s imaginative with a great premise for a tv series and at the time it aired it was the most expensive show produced for television, I used to love more serialized TV storytelling but it’s something I am kind of getting bored of with certain shows and the original BSG is more episodic in nature with a few multipart episodes. The special effects look good for the time and the show overall feels like a grand space epic with memorable characters, I still have my DVD set from when the series was first released on DVD and they still play well.

When the show first premiered the pilot movie was shown as a big three hour event without commercials it runs for two and a half hours and it’s one of the best pilot episodes filmed, the reactions to the major attack on the colonies has a lot of good acting and feels intense and dramatic. It only lasted one season due to ratings, each week the ratings slipped further and further while they were still decent it was coupled with a high budget and the network at the time decided to drop the show and replace it with something cheaper, there was enough interest though in the show that in 1980 the show was revived as Galactica 1980 with a mostly new cast with the ship finally reaching earth but it was a truly terrible show that dropped it’s initial time travel premise after the first TV movie and a number of episodes focus on a group of children that are part of a futuristic version of the cub scouts which also seemingly gets dropped. In my opinion though the original BSG will always be a classic.
