In another Reddit forum I commented that my top tier romantic ships in TV are Seth and Summer from The O.C. and Dana and Cody from Step by Step and it received like 50 upvotes which surprised me a little cause I didn’t think Step by Step was that well known…but assuming that most of those who upvoted it also liked both pairings it got me thinking if there’s an overlap in why these are my top tiers and I totally see two:
Both pairings are characters who are first shown to be opposites in their outward personalities but relatively quickly we get to know them as very similar and sharing interests. Some examples of this are Cody and Dana always ending up in situations together because they have similar interests and I agree with the take that both characters could be on the autistic spectrum. Seth and Summer also become more and more alike over the show and I especially recall the episode where they both try to passively aggressively outdo each other in getting the other one to call of their wedding. Not healthy lol but their thought process is shown to be very similar.
The other overlap I notice is that there was a very natural chemistry between the actors in each pairing that never felt forced. Obviously Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson were dating so it’s no surprise there but I feel like there are other TV couples that work fine but doesn’t have this natural vibe I get from both pairings here.
So what are your favorite romantic ships (doesn’t have to end up together like Cody and Dana sadly didn’t) and do you also see an overlap in why you like them?
