My absolute most hated TV trope is ‘woman in a disaster / horror scenario decides to continue with a surprise pregnancy (even though she has the means to prevent pregnancy or abort)’
So boring. So illogical. So repetitive.
They always choose to have the baby (and then become an entirely one dimensional character afterwards). They always try to sacrifice themselves for the baby at some point even though the baby wouldn’t survive without them in these post-apocalyptic wastelands. The people around them always act like it is a precious miracle and not the huge threat to their survival it actually is. The pregnancy drama always drags on for way too long and overshadows more interesting plot points.
Also I have bought this up to many friends and we all agreed we would NEVER continue with a pregnancy in this scenario so who are they basing these women on? I’m talking specifically about shows where they still have access to birth control / medical care (i.e. the walking dead, from etc) not those where they have no access to medicine or medics.
