Ted Baxter, who is portrayed as an arrogant fool said to Mary “that women should be dignified and refined, not pushy and arrogant, if God wanted them to be pushy and arrogant, then he would have just made them men.”
My friend thought this joke wouldn’t fly today but I thought it suited the context of Ted’s character as it was meant to come across as an incredibly stupid thing to say, considering the uncomfortable reactions of Mary and Murray.
