Had a guy on here (and a few others replying to his comment) slutshame me and couldn’t help but realize: it’d been eons since the last time that happened. I almost forgot that was a thing!

I’m probably projecting my own lived experience onto people as a whole, but it seemed like millennial and gen z women largely stopped caring about being seen as slutty in the early 2010’s. Meanwhile, a lot of men seemed to give up on slinging it at us once they realized it wasn’t an effective way to hurt us anymore.

Again, that’s probably just my lived experience. I’m from an extremely liberal and secular area, so I’m sure it’s different in more conservative and religious areas.

It’s just that the only people I’ve known to care about “being slutty” have been insecure teenagers, old fashioned Boomers, weird misogynists and uptight conservatives, so the concept of sluttiness is inextricably tied to the most cringe people on earth. By caring about it, you’re automatically too lame to be taken seriously.

Ultimately, being slutshamed by this redditor was just like…I mean, okay, but why bother, dude lol. I’m not a 15 year old in 2007 who’s gonna fling herself on her bed and cry “I’M NEVER GOING TO SCHOOL AGAIN, BRIANNA TOLD EVERYBODY I’M A TOTAL SKANK, MY LIFE IS OVER”, you might as well have called me a pelican or chair. Better luck next time, I guess?
