This question has been on my mind for quite a while and figured I might as well ask a subreddit. Within the past 10-20 years, shows have had less and less episodes per season. I’ve been told that it’s because of attention spans and how weekly releases aren’t really a thing (even though The Last of Us and The Mandalorian do it well). I feel like that is a stupid answer though and doesn’t exactly make sense.
For me, these 20 episode seasons were amazing. You got to learn more about characters, watch them change as people, and really understand why they do the things they do. So many shows are still beloved and talked about these days because of the characters. You get hooked on them. When you like something, you want more content, not less. It just doesn’t make sense to me to have less episodes. You used to have shows that were 20 episodes per season and each episode was 40 minutes to an hour long. That isn’t a thing anymore. Filler episodes are great and give you a breather from the action for a little bit. It’s where you truly discover and understand the characters. I just want this stuff back.
Anyone else agree? Is there a reason to why we don’t have them that I just can’t seem to understand? Would appreciate any sort of input!!
