I just got done binging ‘Brockmire’ for the third time in like two weeks- which, if you haven’t, goes down quite smoothly. It’s only 32 half-hour episodes and is pretty delightful.
The show is amazing. The humor, the baseball aspect, the relationship between Brockmire and Charles (and him and Jules, of course). But an under-appreciated aspect of it is the level of absurdity stemming from Hank Azaria’s portrayal. And specifically there’s a joke in the third season that only gets funnier imagining what it would turn into.
Middle of season 3, the viewers find out that Brockmire is triggered by the films of Christopher Nolan. It’s referenced that he threw a bottle of wine at the tv during Interstellar, he storms off during his friend’s home viewing of Dunkirk, and he references Alfred’s “man they didn’t understand” speech from the Dark Knight (hilariously to refer to Nolan himself). The show also finished, planned, in May of 2020.
Five months before Tenet was released. And something that has given me great joy the last couple weeks is imagining what Hank Azaria’s Brockmire would have to say about Tenet. (And Oppenheimer, but that’s a different thing.)
