Paramount has the opportunity to convert some of their dying cable channels (namely MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central) into major content hubs for their very own streaming service in a manner similar to FX on Hulu as well as Bravo on Peacock (and to a lesser extent USA and Syfy). It seems, however, that they care so little and want to make the channels a lot less of a priority going forward.

I’m going to sound a little bit like a boomer here, but I find that there’s something about this whole situation which I honestly don’t understand. Why would such a huge corporation want to essentially treat the channels that literally made them into the powerhouse they became over the last several decades (first as Viacom, then as ViacomCBS, and now as Paramount Global) like utter crap by not even bothering to find ways to adapt them to an ever-changing TV landscape? Does future parent company Skydance feel as if IPs like SpongeBob, South Park, Ninja Turtles, Blue’s Clues, or Beavis & Butthead aren’t what will define Paramount going forward?

I really hope they’ll eventually figure something out, but my hopes don’t remain too high.
