Original Title: (Small rant on the Boys fans) just because I might have some criticism of the Boys political commentary, that doesn’t mean, I was unaware of it always being political, nor does it mean that “I’m upset that it’s poking fun of my side”
TLDR at the bottom and sorry for grammar
For the most part I liked the Boys, I liked Season 1 and 2, I thought 3 wasn’t as good, but even then it had memorable scenes, and it got me hooked on the Imagine Dragon song “Bones”
But to me atleast season 3 is where it felt like the political commentary started getting more straw(is that the word I’m looking for?)and preachy, though maybe I should’ve noticed it in season 2, and with season 4, and the build up before and after, it started feeling repetitive with the constant trump reference
But just because I had criticism of the political commentary in later seasons, that doesn’t mean I was unaware of the show always being political, nor does it mean that I’m upset that the show is poking fun at “my side”
But whenever I or someone else brings up these concerns there was always that one group of people who would always go
“The shows always been political, I can’t believe it took you this long to realize”, or “you’re just mad it’s making fun of you”
Hell sometimes even saying “yes I know the show has always had a political element, and has always been left leaning” and/or “while I’m giving that side some defense, I don’t agree with them” wouldn’t be enough, as they would just completely ignore that
However I don’t think every who says "the show has always been political’ or “you’re just mad it’s poking fun at your side” should be thrown in the same group, because at times it only feels like the comment is directed towards one person rather than an entire group, and there are times when those comments are warranted
But The worst is when someone would say “I don’t think every right-winger is like this, and I don’t think Left vs Right, should be treated like Good vs Evil” and then someone would reply “But the Right is completely evil, if you show them any sympathy, then you’re an evil boot licking nazi” and the funny thing about these types of comments is that for as much I heavily disagree with the way the shows portays the right, looking back I don’t think they’re trying to portay them as evil irredeemable monsters,
Now they portay them as easily radicalized, sure, and that’s definitely bad, but they have humanized them,
The guy who got radicalized by Stormfront, was filled with regret the moment he shot someone innocent, and in season 3 and 4, Homelander isn’t manipulating his followers, by trying to convince them, “they’ll be able to do what they want, without consequences” "he manipulates them by making them believe that Starlight is the Villian, who needs to be stopped
Again they’re in no way portraying the right in a positive light, but it’s a lot better, when compared to how some of the shows fans sees them
(TLDR, some peope in the Boys fanbase won’t listen to or try to understand the criticism of the Boys political commentary, passing it off as ignorance or anger, regardless of if it is or not, with some having even more extreme views then the show itself)
