Its true guys have off years and it doesn’t mean they are “done”.
But CJ Stroud has been worse in every way in 2024. Here are the numbers
Stats | 2023 | 2024 |
---|---|---|
Pass Yards per game | 274 | 230 |
TD% | 4.6% | 3.6% |
INT% | 1.0% | 2.3% |
Rating | 101 | 86 |
ANY/A | 7.47 | 5.38 |
Sack Rate | 7% | 9% |
I don’t think its time to panic, he has dealt with bad line and WR injuries this year, but I do feel more concerned with Stroud than I’ve been with other guys.
He’s starting to show some warts I had concerns with coming out of college.
In 2023, CJ was one of the biggest differences in performance with pressure vs without. He is unable to escape from pass rushers the way more athletic QBs have been able to.
The Texans offense has felt this regression as well. They rank bottom half in the league in a lot of categories. 18th in total scoring, 21st in yards, 19th in passing
And CJ adds little to no value in rushing yards, so he has to win as a passer. And he hasn’t this year for the large part
Verdict: I’m not selling CJ yet, but I can’t say I’m not concerned about him being the long term Texans QB. 2025 will be a huge year for him cause 2024 has been one to forget
