I’d be shocked. Butch Jones left before our bowl game in 2012, just as D’antonio and Kelly had done prior to him. The Big East collapsed and we joined the American Conference before the 2013 season. If you were to tell me that new head coach Tommy Tuberville would start with back-to-back 9-4 seasons only to go 11-14 in his last two seasons and manage to piss off the entire fanbase on his way out, I’d have no confidence things would turn around so soon. If you were to tell me the next head coach, Luke Fickell, went 4-8 in his first season, I’d be dejected. I would absolutely lose my mind and think I’m being lied to after hearing we’d rattle off seasons of 11-2, 11-3, 9-1, 13-1, and 9-4. Going from 4-8 in both 2016 and 2017 to back-to-back NY6 bowls, including being the first ever G5 team to make the CFP would’ve sounded impossible. I’d be certain I was being lied to if you were to tell me in 2013, our first year in the American Conference, that a decade from now we’d be in the Big 12.
