Had a chat with one of my long-time guy pal (we’re both in our 30s) and showed him some pics from my recent trip. He goes, ‘You’re looking great, but if you cared enough and put some effort into selling your looks, you’d do pretty well… even though you’re already looking good with what seems like little effort.’ Growing up my family always gave me a hard time for not being girly enough, so his comment didn’t exactly sit well with me. It felt like a subtle jab that I’m somehow not measuring up even though I felt pretty in them. I mean, I’ve got this ‘tom-boy’ vibe when it comes to my style, but that doesn’t mean I’m not putting in the effort. I regularly hit the gym, maintain good hygiene, wear well-fitted clothing, and style my hair before I step out. I just don’t wear make-up and prefer minimalistic tees and jeans. So, yeah, his words kinda hit a nerve and bothered me a bit - Not sure if I’m overreacting or it’s a valid feeling.

Any of you ever had someone drop a comment like this? How’d you deal with it?
