When I say this show pop up on my account I completely expected it to have tons of short clips of Trump and for it to try to subtly justify the motives of people like Stalin and Mao Zedong. I’m up to the fifth episode and I’m pleasantly surprised that neither of those have been the case.
The show far has gone through Hitler, Dada, Stalin, Sadam and Gadafi and it’s given a good overview of the tactics each used to come to power, gain total control and retain that power. When talking about Stalin, one of the interviewees even says that many liberals in the western world would run defense for him in the papers and other areas because they thought his form of government should be adopted across the world. I’m just surprised that they actually admit the faults some idealistic people when it comes to communism.
But the “funnier” part to me is that a good amount of the things they say are in the “guide to become a tyrant” are exactly what the US government has been doing for decades. The big one that stood out was the fact that tyrants like Dada start wars to distract their population from his corruption and also give their people a group to band together against.
It’s also mentioned that tyrants will often find an internal “other” group to focus on and blame for the countries woes and even try to control the truth narrative using propaganda and the media (if possible) to rewrite events in a favorable light.
Anyone else check it out and was surprised at it?
