I (30s M) work for a small business which is basically run by 2 people in their 40s/50s. One woman, one man. We talk regularly about who should be given trial shifts. On a thread involving the 3 of us, where we were discussing whether to give a man one of these trial shifts, the woman said “sorry to be a feminist but I think women do [task traditionally ascribed to women] better”.
I knew that she was ill-informed about a lot of things but my jaw dropped when I heard this one. Hearing something decidedly anti-feminist be described as feminist left me stunned, disappointed and angry.
Is there any way in which I, a man (and a lower level employee) can compassionately point out why that statement is problematic?
