Most people in this sub are aware that Ashton Jeanty has more yards after contact (YAC) that any other rusher has total yards this season (1882 vs 1660), and more YAC than any rusher has every had since PFF started tracking that stat in 2014 (1882 vs 1355) , but I wondered how Jeanty’s numbers compare to all seasons. Since I can’t compare YAC before 2014 I compared to total rushing yards. To do this I used College Football Reference’s Leaders Index which shows the rushing leader from each season going back to 1956 (as far back as CFR goes) and here are the results.

Jeanty has more yards after contact than 40 of the 68 season leaders had total including the leaders from the last 4 seasons! Obviously college football has changed a lot over the years and they played fewer games in the past, so I checked how Jeanty’s YAC per carry compared to the rushing leaders yards per carry to help account for this. Jeanty had more YAC per carry than 20 of the season rushing attempt leaders had yards per carry, including 18 of the season leaders who he outgained! Some notable names on that list of 18 include Brian Piccolo, OJ Simpson twice, and Toby Gerhart.

Jeanty has at least one more game to add to his bonkers YAC total, but regardless of how that game goes this season is clearly one of the best seasons in college football history and I am just glad I got to witness it.
