Five years ago, we mods brought forth on this platform a new community, conceived for liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all of humankind should be free!

Today is the 5 year birthday of r/GoldandBlack!!!

Five years ago today, myself, Properal, and Jobdestroyer were conversing about creating an alternative space just for libertarians. We were upset with how graffiti'd r/anarcho_capitalism had become because the mods there had allowed alt-right trolls and brigaders to crap on the place, and they had declared their intent to do nothing about it.

Some tried to argue with these people, but all it did was give them more attention and spotlight. The right thing to do with trolls is to ignore them. Therefore we decided to exercise our free association and create a new subreddit with stronger moderation rules that allowed us to remove the alt-right and anyone else, to make a sub that was kept on-topic, and also one that was not overrun with memes, like r/a_c still is to this day.

We took inspiration from this article as the basis of our moderation rules: Well-Kept Gardens Die By Pacifism (which if you haven't read, I recommend!)

We decided to exercise our free association by creating a new sub, inviting several solid libertarians we knew to join us as mods, and we decided to invite all of you to join us here and you have!

Together we have built what we like to think of as the best place on reddit to discuss liberty, a place that has helped many learn about libertarianism in the first place, grow deeper in their appreciation of liberty, and encouraged us all into advanced liberty knowledge and applications. Thank you for your support, we pledge to keep trying to make this the best place for libertarians on reddit!
