There aren’t many shows that can peak my interest on Netflix. I can convince myself to watch a movie if the premise is interesting ‘cause it’s only 2 hours wasted if it sucks but even then my standards are pretty strict.
Regarding shows on Netflix, they have a near zero percent chance to interest me based on what the app is recommending me.
The premise sometimes might mention something interesting from time to time but the promotional poster almost always pushes me off.
House Of Usher has been following my recommended list for months like a disease until I finally gave in and said ‘fine, what’s the fuss all about then?!’
I must say I was pleasantly surprised it was actually a modern retelling of Poe’s most popular works and I enjoyed it a lot.
When Bodkin showed the same signs in my recommended list, I decided to give it the same shot. The promotional poster showed some sort of kraken monster pulling down a car in a lake so I was sceptical since I wasn’t in the mood for some Irish sci-fi horror show.
Will Forte is in it and I really disliked MacGruber so a horror comedy that’s not my style… this doesn’t seem like something I’d like… what even is this? Yet, like an incurable disease Bodkin keeps popping up on the top of my recommended list. Alright, FINE! Let’s give it a shot…
I’m 2 episodes in and this isn’t remotely related to a sci-fi horror show or a Will Forte comedy AT ALL?!
Unless the show is going to take an 180 in the next episode, this seems like a a detective level whodunnit mini series which has fully grasped my attention.
Which makes me wonder… (at the risk of spoilers).
Why the fuck does the promotional poster show me a picture of a car being pulled down by tentacles?! Why does it promote a Will Forte, a well known comedian with almost no direct link to drama?!
Who is this promotional material even for? I’m infuriated that Netflix has absolutely no fuckin’ idea how to push their show to their target audience.
