A show’s title is usually meant to give you a general idea of what the show is about. But sometimes what the show started out as and what the show ended up becoming are different things, so a title that made sense at first can become increasingly outdated in later seasons, but the title usually has to be kept.
For example, Smallville is named after the titular town where a young Clark Kent lives in before he became Superman. But in later seasons the story moves to Metropolis when Clark starts working for the Daily Planet.
Boy Meets World was named that way because the main character Cory was a boy who was growing up and learning about the world. By the final season he was graduating college, getting married, and clearly hadn’t been a boy for a while.
Agents of SHIELD was about, well, agents of SHIELD. But then SHIELD is disbanded so the characters aren’t actually agents of anything.
Sometimes, shows actually do change their title in later seasons to reflect changes in the status quo, such as when the British show Yes, Minister became Yes, Prime Minister for its final seasons.
So what other shows had titles that made sense at first but didn’t as time went on and things changed?
