I opened my LLC about 5 years ago. At the time I opened a local bank account because I really liked the personal account I had with that bank, and they were local + the only ones that offered a Visa (card I need for work).

I went into the bank after filing the LLC paperwork. My employee (and boyfriend 😅) was with me. We walk into this guy’s office. He didn’t even look at me once. At this point I was very socially anxious but I still put in an effort with my appearance because this was a huge day for me. I also had very long hair.

He spoke exclusively to my boyfriend until he saw my paperwork & that I was the LLC director. He immediately asked my BF to leave the room. He even said something to the effect of my BF being ‘nobody in this company’, I asked if he could stay and the guy said no.

We were alone then and I saw him quickly look at me. He then told me all about his wife and how she would love to do what I do. He gave me his personal number and asked me to consider employing his wife.

His last comment was an apology, he said he presumed my boyfriend was the boss since I seem so young and my long hair makes me look very innocent.

Needless to say I was pretty grossed out (I actually cut my hair into a bob the same week 🤣) and I switched banks soon after to a foreign online bank.

I still have a personal account, but I recently moved and didn’t think I’d see this guy again. I went to my local bank yesterday and he was at the till. He told me he got demoted, divorced & moved back home.

He said thank god you didn’t employ my wife and called her a bitch (this was at the till). And he said he saw me in town years ago and I ‘looked better with longer hair, you must br glad it’s growing back’

Even though I like the bank I don’t want to keep my account because I legit don’t want to run into this guy. I already filed to close my account and they called and asked me to come in & sign. This has been my bank since 16 and I have to go there next week and close everything (abroad until then)

I already know they will ask because I have a few acquaintances at this bank too, but I’m really torn between telling them why.

On one hand:

  • I’m afraid I’m overreacting
  • I don’t want to kick this man when he’s down

On the other:

  • am I enabling him to upset someone else if I say nothing?
