I won’t pretend that I don’t like hearing (from the right people) that I’m pretty - everyone likes to be told they’re attractive obviously. But I can honestly say when it comes to my body I’ve always cared a lot more about being strong and fast and capable than about being sexy or pretty.

Well I’ve been biking to work for the past year and since my work went back to 3 days a week earlier this spring, I’ve noticed it has made a huge difference in my cardio fitness. I also noticed my legs feel stronger but I had no idea it was noticeable to others.

But then this weekend my partner and I were in the car on our way to a hike and we were talking about how ready we feel for our multi day hike coming up in a few weeks. I mentioned that cycling so much has made me feel more ready for the cardio aspect and he just casually was like “well and muscles too”. I asked “what?” and he said “your quads are super defined right now. I noticed it the other day when you were chasing the dog around in shorts. I had to do a double take when I saw how ripped they were!”

And ladies… When I tell you THE WAY THAT COMMENT HAS STUCK WITH ME! omg!

I’ve thought about it pretty much constantly for the last four days! I feel so fucking good about myself right now. This is a man who tells me all the time that I’m pretty and sexy and all that, which is great, but this comment just hit different.
