We all know about Death Valley, the Horseshoe, the Big House, Kyle Field, etc. But what are some lesser-known venues that can wreak havoc on an unsuspecting away team?
My personal vote is War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, WY. At 7220 feet of elevation, it is nearly 2000 feet higher than Colorado’s Folsom Field. The temperature can plummet suddenly & drastically once the sun goes down or if a cold front rolls down from the northern Rockies. Equally intimidating is the wind that can range from 30-40 mph in the fall/winter with 60+ mph gusts being common- so bring your ground game. And while the crowd may not be the largest you can guarantee every whiskey-infused cowboy & cowgirl is going to let you know exactly how they feel about the opposing team any chance they get.
What are some rough spots that don’t get their fair due?
