ACC
SMU is 7-0 in league play and will get the chance to play for a title in their debut ACC season. Miami can meet them in Charlotte by beating Syracuse. Clemson, having already wrapped up their league schedule, will take the Hurricanes’ spot should they stumble.
Big Ten
Oregon, the only unbeaten team in the FBS, has already clinched a spot in the title game in Indianapolis. Ohio State can join them for a rematch by winning The Game over Michigan. If the Wolverines can spoil the party, then Penn State can grab the second spot with a win over Maryland, and if they slip up as well, then the door opens for Indiana against Purdue.
Big 12
The Big 12 leads the country in chaos with four co-leaders at 6-2 and EIGHT teams still in the running overall. Arizona State and Iowa State have the inside track and will likely advance to Arlington with wins, although there are scenarios where either of them miss out at 7-2. BYU needs to beat Houston and see either ASU or ISU suffer an upset. Colorado needs victory over Oklahoma State along with losses for at least two of the other co-leaders OR for both BYU and West Virginia.
Meanwhile, four teams (Baylor, Kansas State, Texas Tech, and West Virginia) are all a game adrift at 5-3 and can crash the party with a win and significant help elsewhere.
(EDIT: TCU, though also at 5-3, has no way of finishing in the top two on tiebreakers.)
SEC
Last week’s surprises have raised the stakes for the much-anticipated clash between Texas and Texas A&M: the winner will battle Georgia in Atlanta for the SEC crown.
AAC
Tulane and Army, both perfect in league play, will face off in the title game on Dec. 6. If they both win or lose on the final weekend, the host school will be determined by either the CFP rankings or an average of various computer rankings.
Conference USA
Jacksonville State will be hosting the title game, and a matchup between Liberty and Sam Houston will determine the other participant. If Liberty wins, they advance directly, while Sam Houston needs a win and a loss by Western Kentucky as well. WKU can vault into second with a win and a Liberty loss.
MAC
Bowling Green and Miami are matched up on the final weekend, with the winner advancing to the title game. Ohio is in with a win over Ball State, while a loss rules them out. Buffalo, who closed out their regular season earlier in the week, needs an Ohio loss; this, along with a Miami loss, would see the Bulls off to Detroit. If Ohio loses but Miami wins, it remains to be determined whether Buffalo or Bowling Green would advance.
(EDIT: Buffalo already played this week; also, they would win a three-way tie against Ohio and Miami.)
MWC
Boise State is 7-0 in the Mountain West and will host the title game. UNLV and Colorado State, both tied for second, can each advance with a win and a loss by the other. If they remain tied after this weekend, a tiebreaker involving the CFP rankings or certain computer rankings will decide who goes to Boise to face the Broncos.
Sun Belt
Marshall can clinch the East with a win over James Madison. If they lose, Georgia Southern can take the division by beating App State. In the West, Louisiana-Lafayette can lock up first place with a win over Louisiana-Monroe. If they falter, South Alabama can leapfrog them by besting Texas State.
