Welcome to week 12 of the r/NFL Power Rankings! There are now eight teams with eight or more wins, three of which reside in the NFC North (Take notes Puka). With a division win against a potentially spiraling Dan Quinn, is it extension time for McCarthy? The Chiefs look more vulnerable than ever, but won again while other upper tier teams like Pittsburgh and Houston took a step back. John let his team do the talking for Jim, the Dolphins also knocked out the Patriots to lock up a third straight win, and Detroit looked like Detroit. Does the Bucs first win of the month mean much against the Giants? What will Eberflus challenge next week? Discuss! 32/32 Reporting

# Team Δ Record Comment
1. Lions – 10-1 Aaron Glenn is so damn good at his job. The Lions put on yet another defensive masterclass against Indy on Sunday, extending their streak of not allowing a TD to 10 consecutive quarters while tying the 1934 Lions for the best record in franchise history through 11 games. Glenn is in his bag tweaking each set of players to maximize their play, shifting in the newly signed David Long Jr. into the LB rotation seamlessly and deploying him, Ezekiel Turner, Ben Niemann, and Saginaw Valley St standout Trevor Nowaske in a variety of unique sets to help make up for the loss of Alex Anzalone. Jeremy Reisman at Pride of Detroit has a sick writeup on the snap counts for those interested. The offense cruised for the most part, almost doubling up Indy’s time of possession with a suffocating run game that scored all three touchdowns. Also: Fuck Jonathan Vilma, that dude is SO ASS it’s crazy. Actively trying to get your fellow commentator to announcer jinx the kicker to make him miss is unreal and should be a fireable offense. If you can’t announce neutrally get a different job. Don’t root for players to fail and lose their jobs. Unlistenable.
2. Bills – 9-2 The Bills enjoyed their bye week watching the Steelers lose, giving them a little more space to maintain the two seed. Next on tap is a matchup with 49ers where the rested Bills are looking forward to the returns of Milano, Coleman and Kincaid.
3. Chiefs – 10-1 For years now whenever I’m on r/baseball I find myself getting into fights about the clutch gene. Baseball nerds decided 40 years ago that the idea of a player being clutch didn’t carry water and they still argue until they’re blue in the face that such a thing can’t possibly exist. Players like Aaron Judge consistently choking in the biggest moments is not worth noting, there simply isn’t a big enough sample size of post season at bats for any of it to matter. When you see Pat playing football I think even those guys have to question their mindset. The kid is simply n+1 where n= how good he needs to be in order to win. Bias aside, was there a single person watching the Chiefs v Panthers game this weekend that didn’t know in their soul that Mahomes was going to march down the field and give the kicker an opportunity to put the game away?
4. Eagles +2 9-2 The lazy power rankings blurb writer in me wants to write “SAQUON BARKLEY” about 30 times and leave it there, but instead let’s go a little deeper on the engine of the Eagles offense. Barkley is having the best season of his career by far, running behind the best run-blocking O-line of his career, by far. Will he win MVP? Probably not, unless he keeps on this historic pace for the rest of the season and Lamar/Allen begin to sputter. But is he the MVP of the Eagles team? Yes.* Coming out of the half in LA, the game was close — the Rams seemed to be moving the ball well, and the Eagles were stalling a bit in FG range. Then the first play of the second half: Saquon gets to the second level and makes a cut, and he’s gone. In the past few years, the Eagles running backs (Swift, Sanders, Gainwell, etc.) would make it up to that second level and get tackled. But Barkley is able to make that last guy miss to (in the words of Jimmy Kempski) turn a double into a grand slam. And then he does it again to put a bow on the game in the 4th quarter. The irony of all of this, of course, is that a routine drop against the Falcons is the reason the Eagles have two losses instead of one. But he’s also the reason the Eagles have been able to win while Jalen Hurts has an average season, by his standards. The team’s recipe for success is clear: good defense, mistake-free football from Hurts, and the incredible run offense generated by their line and Barkley. *One could make a case for AJ Brown, who the offense seems to be completely inept without and who quietly puts up 100-yard games in his sleep.
5. Ravens – 8-4 After an absolutely brutal loss in Pittsburgh last week the Ravens were given a gift when the Browns won a classic snowy AFCN slopfest on Thursday night. They nearly squandered it however with another slow start and the infuriating persistence of drive killing offensive penalties. Unlike years past, they never got flustered down by 10 they stayed true to their identity with a heavy dose of King Henry and some Lamar magic sprinkled in. The Ravens defense, sans Roquan Smith, actually showed up to play and has quietly been making massive strides the past few weeks. Neither the Steelers or Chargers offensive weapons bear much resemblance to the 07 Pats or Greatest Show on Turf and they have been aided by some timely drops the past several games. That unit will have a prime chance to prove the turnaround is real facing a red hot Philadelphia Eagles featuring an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions headlined by Saquon Barkley. Roquan needs to rub some deer antler spray on his hammy and the rest of the team needs to hit the ice baths early and often after flying back east for a massive showdown in 6 short days. I’m thankful for another season of competitive football and anyone/everyone who’s continued to read my ramblings week after week. Hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy the time with your loved ones this holiday season.
6. Vikings +1 9-2 Divisional wins are never easy, especially road divisional wins, especially road divisional wins in the 2024 NFC North. Unless of course you have an MVP candidate like Sam Darnold slanging that thang. Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson proved they could thoroughly punish defenses selling out against Justin Jefferson, while NFL-pressures-leader Jonathan Greenard notched his second sack to help force a huge overtime three-and-out. After winning three straight on the road, the Vikings now get to enjoy a three-game homestand as they vie for the top of the best division in football.
7. Packers +1 8-3 I was kinda shidding and farding going into this week because the Niners have our number and it doesn’t really matter what QB is under center for them. We get out to a big lead but then San Fran got some momentum going into the half and I started to get a little nervous. And then we just kept extending the lead? We just forced turnovers and getting QB pressures and getting clutch stop and the OL mashed the 49ers defense down and we won by 28? The win might have felt slightly more cathartic if it was in the playoffs but mannnnnnnn this felt good.
8. Steelers -4 8-3-0 Everyone who hasn’t seen the Steelers this year saw the one thing that hasn’t changed since prior seasons: not showing up in games where the opponent has a far worse record. There was a lot of arrogance this weak towards the Browns, and Winston and Garrett were having none of it. They showed Pittsburgh up. The running game could not get going, the O-line was soft in the middle and allowed a lot of pressures, and despite the Browns being abysmal on 3rd down and penalties, the Steelers simply could not and did not bring their A-game. That’s all it boils down to. They have to shake it off, get serious, and come back to work and learn from this.
9. Chargers – 7-4 There’s an incredible phenomenon where the worse something is, the longer its presence is felt once it’s gone. You can eat bland, flavorless food and forget about it rather quickly, but if you consume something rancid, it will do everything in its power to stick around long after you’ve spit it out. It sticks to your tastebuds for a while, possibly forcing you to throw up everything else you’ve eaten within the day. Your appetite is shot, as the smell of it lingers in your trashcan until you replace the bag. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Chargers, they consumed a nice, hearty helping of Tom Telesco for eleven long years. His magnum opus was the 2023 NFL Draft, where he drafted Quentin Johnston despite the fanbase begging for a quicker receiver like Zay Flowers. More than a year later, this decision still lingers in the mouths of the Chargers faithful, as QJ posted a monumental stat line of zero catches for zero yards on five targets, including [this third-down drop](x.com/Pick6PackFB/status/1861251826210759044?ref_……
