I understand every program and stadium is different. I also understand I’m looking at this through some bias and a different lens as a former band kid.

When I first got into college football back in 2007, I loved the spirit of it and the sounds of the bands filling the stadiums. When I did college band from 2012 - 2016, there were still plenty of times where music would be playing through the PA system which I was cool with. Even when we went to other stadiums, there was a good balance between the bands playing stuff and music being played through the speakers in the stadium.

Fast forward to now, I, anecdotally, feel like I’m hearing bands less and less. I went to Alabama vs. Texas A&M last year and (most recently) went to NC State vs. Georgia Tech. At Kyle Field, I felt like I kept hearing the same DJ mixes and the song would change every 30 seconds and I didn’t get to hear the band as much as I would’ve liked. A similar thing happened last night at Bobby Dodd Stadium. There were even times where the band was playing AND music was being played over the PA system, which seems wild to me.

Overall, I just feel like the stadium atmospheres have changed a good bit and bands are a bit less involved than they used to be in helping create an atmosphere in the stadium.

I’d love to hear other peoples thoughts on this though.
