Take-aways:

  1. SMU is underrated. Their resume is similar to Penn State (9-1 team with 1 Top-20 loss and 4 wins against Top-50 Opponents). At the VERY least, SMU should be ranked above Miami (SMU lost to a Top-20 BYU team, Miami lost to #37 Georgia Tech; SMU has played more Top-50 opponents; SMU has a tougher SoS).
  2. I hate to be unpatriotic… but Army is WAY overrated. Army has had an absolute cake walk. Army’s best win of the season was beating #86 North Texas. Army’s average opponent ranks as the #19 worst team in FBS.
  3. Speaking of cake walks… Indiana. The Hoosiers have played 1 Top-50 Opponent (#47 Washington). On average, Alabama’s opponents have been ranked 35 spots higher than Indiana’s. “35 spots higher” is the difference between playing Texas A&M vs. Rutgers OR the difference between playing West Virginia vs. Bowling Green. And Indiana’s average opponent ranks as the 50th worst team in FBS.
  4. Tennessee’s resume is weak. Their win over Alabama is the only positive. Tennessee has the 4th weakest SoS (tied with BYU) among the top 16 teams listed, 2 losses, and a 1-2 record against Top-50 teams.
  5. Texas better beat Texas A&M and Kentucky… The Longhorn’s have only played 3 Top-50 games and their best win of the season was a 3 point win @ #34 Vanderbilt.
  6. Staying in the state of Texas… Texas A&M is the only team listed that has played 2+ games against Top-20 opponents and is winless against Top-20 teams. Their best win was against #28 Missouri. A win against the Longhorns is a must.
  7. Notre Dame is the only team who has played 4+ games against Top-50 opponents (#15 A&M, #31 Louisville, #37 Georgia Tech, and #43 Navy) without losing to a Top-50 Opponent.
