So I’m located in a small town in Alabama currently temporary homeless for the last few months. Other rural towns nearby have been sending their homeless to this shelter and it has become more packed which has caused an issue with… hygiene.
Since many jobs are prioritizing male workers so does the shelter in most cases, which partners with one of the only two churches in town for their shower facility so there’s a line every morning. The issue is that only from 8am-5pm are the showers open, and recently things have been hectic enough that I often am not able to get in the showers at all before closing.
As a result my… lower areas as well as the rest of my body are becoming obviously smelly, and after no showers for awhile small daps are not able to cover it up for an extended period of time anymore.
The worst thing is Tuesday I have a job interview to be a cleaner, and the company is usually known for hiring and starting the same day. In this case I would have to find some alternative way to keep clean in order to make sure I get the job and also become less unapproachable.
Unfortunately the only other places in town with showers is one local gym which wants $80 for a 1-year membership, and a motel which gives 3-day for $120 a night, or a single night for $60. These are expensive.
Any other location is at least 25 miles away and having no car makes it so I’m stuck with these options, but being homeless also puts local options out of reach, and I am concerned if I can’t find a solution for this shower issue I’ll screw up the interview and also my chance to turn things around.
As I said the scents are getting worse, makeshift solutions are no longer working and people are taking notice which is embrassing for any women. Any ideas are welcome.
