When my boyfriend and I started dating 4 years ago I already had several tattoos on several parts of my body. I have gotten three tattoos since we have been dating. And I have gotten a couple of piercings on my face (2 nostril piercings and a septum) as well.
When we started dating it was well known that I desired to get more tattoos and piercings in addition to what I already had. I had even shared my tattoo inspo and a list of ideas I had. Now even though I am very upfront with him about when I’m getting tattoos, upcoming appointments, etc when I come home he is visibly upset and says that getting things like makes me less attractive to him and less me.
He seemed accepting of me when we first started dating and generally very happy that I wanted to express myself.
I feel like getting tattoos and piercings are part of expressing myself but I recognize everyone has preferences and can I be upset that he has these particular preferences?
Moral of the story- am I the asshole for continuing to consider getting more modifications like this in the future if my boyfriend doesn’t like them?
