The left's narrative regarding US economic policy often focuses on 2 things that completely contradict each other.

One the one hand, the rich aren't paying their "fair share." Because they're hoarding all the wealth for themselves, we can't have a social safety net, free college, free healthcare, etc. that would make our society better. If we just taxed the rich more, we could have all that stuff.

On the other hand, the amount of government spending and debt doesn't really matter. Since we have our own currency, and people keep buying our debt, we can just keep spending without consequence.

So which is it? It can't be both, unless the goal of increasing taxes on the rich isn't to raise revenue but to punish them.
