Although the vast majority of Big 12 schools are happy to be there I am curious what schools in the conference hold the most political power going forward as new members join and OU & UT leave? And what categories do you give weight to?
Best relations amongst various member schools? Original B12/Hateful 8 member?
Most desirable to be poached by a P2 league? I can be talked into both this helping and hurting?
Best football? Best basketball? Best overall athletics?
Best academics? AAU status?
Personally although some of the 8 new schools may gain significant political presence in the future, I don’t see any of them having too much power to sway decisions in the near term given they either just graduated from G5 or were saved from a dying conference. I understand ASU had a respected voice in the Pac-12, but I don’t think their leadership has built much goodwill the way they’re entering. Of these 8, Colorado may be in the best position given it’s historic relationship with original Big 12 schools and it’s more recent relationship with the rest of the Four Corners schools.
Just curious how the broader internet thinks the Big 12 pecking order falls now. No matter the result, I do think all Hateful 8 universities are more aligned in interest than ever, but the Longhorns leaving does leave quite the power vacuum.
