Original Title: Before Spygate, the Patriots had a top 10 DVOA defence in 3 of 6 seasons (50%) and were on average the 12th best defence. After Spygate, the Patriots went 12 straight years without a Top 10 DVOA defence, and averaged the 19th best defence. Spygate mattered a lot for the Patriots defence.
In comparison, the offense had a Top 10 Offense in 5 of 6 seasons (83%) before Spygate, and was Top 10 in all 12 seasons after Spygate.
Not enough seems to be made about this dramatic fall off from the Patriots defense, post Spygate.
