I just received modmail that I've been banned from participating in the /r/pics and /r/aww subreddits because I simply subscribe to the /r/NoNewNormal/ subreddit. Their reason? The subreddit "is known for being a disease vector to other subreddits and society." I can't even ask them about their logic behind this decision despite their statement that "If you have a question regarding your ban, you can contact the moderator team for [subreddit] by replying to this message," they tell me the following:
Responding to this message with anything other than a promise to avoid that subreddit will be ignored and is consent for us to mute you.
So just because I follow a subreddit that goes against the Cathedral on a virus with an over 99% chance of recovery, I can't post or comment to subreddits that share pictures (mostly reposts) and pictures and videos of animals, respectively. If Reddit is jumping on the "extremist" bandwagon, I don't think this is going to turn out well for them. The more these tech companies tighten their grip, the more people they will wake up each day.
EDIT: because more are coming in. I'm a 13-year redditor, mind you, and have been on the site since before the Digg migration. This is insanity. Here's the running list of bans (don't brigade them):
