So the BIG12 just added four PAC12 schools that are, between them, set to earn a total of $126 mil per year.

Think about that for a second. Apple’s total package to the PAC12’s 10 teams was rumored to be $200 mil. Had ESPN and Fox had the extra $126 million to throw around, there’s a chance the PAC12’s Apple/Linear hybrid could have been $32.6 mil per team. But ESPN/Fox couldn’t spend that money on the PAC 12.

Yormark’s genius was continuing to push the BIG12 expansion narrative even before things got dicey in the PAC12. Add to that the BIG12’s pro rata clause for FBS teams in their media rights deal (another stroke of genius forethought.)

This kept ESPN and Fox’s bean counters from throwing their hats in the ring when the PAC 12 negotiations were going on: they had to budget for that potential BIG12 expansion outlay, even if it hadn’t materialized.

Dude had a baller of a first year.
