I’m sure this topic has come up here a lot but what, in your opinion, is truly the best show that nobody’s watching? Meaning, you hardly see any discussion of it, maybe nobody in your life watches it, etc. This can includes past shows as well!
For me, it’s definitely Acapulco. The show is on AppleTV+ and currently filming its 4th season. I don’t know anybody who watches this show and I rarely see much discussion about it online. However, it’s so good! I genuinely think anybody who watches it will be immediately charmed by it.
The general premise is a billionaire telling his nephew about his life before he became rich. He started by working in the nicest resort in Acapulco in the 80s. Most of the episodes take place in the 80s, and the show is incredibly vibrant and colorful. It’s a hot pink hotel and the 80s fashions are great. The show itself is bilingual, with much of it being in Spanish. One of the best aspects of it are the pool lounge singers who sing awesome Spanish covers of 80s songs almost every episode.
It’s also just a genuinely wholesome, positive show. It has such sweet vibes and the characters all get an opportunity to shine. Even the characters who are ostensibly set up as antagonists are given depth and growth. Nobody is really a villain. The cast is great from top to bottom and each of them play off each other really well.
A lot of people compare it to Ted Lasso due to its heartwarming nature. I think that’s a fair comparison, but personally I think Acapulco is much less saccharine and heavy handed with its messages. While I love Ted Lasso, the latter seasons were a little TOO positive to me, at the expense of character development. But fans of TL will enjoy it. But regardless, it’s a little Ted Lasso, a little Red Oaks (another hidden gem), and a little White Lotus. Ok it’s nothing like White Lotus at all beyond it taking place at a resort lol
