In the middle of all the chaos that happened at the top of college football on Saturday, the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks quietly knocked off undefeated James Madison 21-19 to move to 4-1 on the year. ULM came back from an early 10-0 deficit, and JMU inexplicably attempted a squib kick off the deck with 4 minutes to go.

This is Louisiana-Monroe’s 38th season in the NCAA top division, and the 31st since they returned to I-A in 1994. Since their return, they have a record 120-231. They have 1 winning season from 2012, where they went 8-5. They have 1 ranked win, an OT win over #8 Arkansas in that 2012 season. They also have a shared Sun Belt title from 2005 despite going 5-6 overall.

This year, things are looking up. They are 4-1, with their only loss being to #1 Texas. They have already taken care of Troy, a preseason favorite in the Sun Belt, and James Madison who was #31 in the AP Poll last week. Here’s their remaining schedule:

vs Southern Miss (1-4)

@ South Alabama (2-4)

@ Marshall (3-2)

vs Texas State (3-2)

@ Auburn (2-4)

@ Arkansas State (3-2)

vs Louisiana (4-1)

Despite a host of tough games for the Warhawks, they have the chance to do something they have never done at the FBS level: Win 9 games. If you get a chance (and if they even get on the TV again) tune in to a ULM game this year, because you might just be witnessing history.
