While watching games the other day, I decided to take a look at each network that is broadcasting college football this season and calculate how much of the screen each network covers with their scorebug and/or ticker.

See our entire gallery of 2024 candidates here

Here are this year’s participants, in alphabetical order:

Network Scorebug Ticker Football Example Analyzed
ABC (SEC Only) 5.16% 10.06% 84.78% Link Link
CBS 5.78% 0% 94.22% Link Link
CBS Sports Network 5.47% 8.12% 86.41% Link Link
the CW 6.08% 0% 93.92% Link Link
ESPN1 7.29% 10.16% 82.55% Link Link
Fox (Big Noon Only) 5.78% 0% 94.22% Link Link
Fox (non-Big Noon)2 5.70% 7.83% 86.47% Link Link
NBC/Peacock 4.63% 0% 95.37% Link Link
TruTV/TNT 6.68% 0% 93.32% Link Link

1: Also includes ESPN2/U, ACCN, SECN, and non-SEC ABC games

2: Also includes FS1, FS2, and Big Ten Network

A few random observations I noticed while analyzing:

  • Both FS1 and CBSSN squish the picture vertically whenever their scorebug is on the screen, which slightly distorts the picture
  • FOX’s scorebug is slightly crooked
  • The specific stats for Fox’s scorebug will depend on the size of the logos of the teams playing, and they frequently have quarterback stats on the screen (which I chose to ignore since it’s not on 100% of the time)
  • In memoriam: The Pac-12 Network, 2012-2024
  • I have absolutely no life

So without further ado, here are the 2024 award winners for dedicating most screen space to football:

  • 🥇 First Place: NBC Sports/ Peacock (95.37%)
  • 🥈 Second Place: Fox (Big Noon Saturday) (94.221%)
  • 🥉 Third Place: CBS Sports (94.216%)

and also…

  • Last Place: ESPN networks (82.55%)

Enjoy your college football watching!!
