Kamara is a first year player for South Carolina after spending four years at Pitt. He transferred in and has played in four games so far this season (did not play against Akron) so he can still redshirt and obviously apparently has one more year of eligibility.

In the four games he’s played he’s totaled 70 snaps (including a season-high 30 against Ole Miss) with 9 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.

From a GamecockCentral.com (On3 affiliate) writer:

My understanding is that Kamara initially expressed a desire to shut things down, redshirt this season, and return next season. However, that’s not the way that head coach Shane Beamer wants things to run with his program in Columbia.

The options for Kamara were to continue playing this season for South Carolina or to leave the program, so he chose the latter.
