Welcome to week 4 of the r/NFL Power Rankings! Just as the consensus predicted, the Lions Goffense? Unstoppable, just like Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold. Pittsburgh lost to Indianapolis once their starter left the game, similar to the red rifle’s recent showing stepping in for Bryce Young. Unfortunately, the Dolphins haven’t followed suit. Can the Bills make it 4 straight games without a trademark fluke collapse? Can the Chiefs continue to get by just like last year? Did anybody notice the Falcons are one Saquon drop and muffed punt away from 0-4, or will the focus remain on Jacksonville? Discuss! 30/32 Reporting

1. Chiefs – 4-0 When I was just a pup my folks took me to Movie Gallery once a month or so and let me rent a video game. On one of those trips for reasons lost to time I grabbed The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask. I hadn’t ever played any of the other Zelda games and I remember being fairly confused by the whole thing. It’s kind of funny how little things like that can have such a profound impact on your life. I was absolutely terrified of that scary fucking moon. The sense of unending dread that the game puts on you knowing that if you don’t do things correctly a giant space rock with an evil grin is going to slam into the Earth and kill everyone is overwhelming.
2. Vikings +1 4-0 Has a veteran free agency class ever gotten off to such a hot start as Minnesota’s? Sam Darnold is (somehow???) a legitimate MVP candidate, Aaron Jones looks like a pro bowler and half the starters on this defense were second-tier or cheaper free agent additions, which Brian Flores has sculpted into a defense that ranks first in the NFL in sacks, QB hits, hurries, interceptions, pass deflections and tackles for a loss (and first in DVOA and second in EPA/play to boot). Somehow the undefeated Vikings have spent more time up by 21 points or more this season than they have spent tied or behind. Most unbelievably of all, Vikings’ kickers are making all their kicks, and Vikings’ opponents are somehow missing their kicks? We’ll see if Minnesota can continue exorcising their demons this week in London as they face their former tormentor in Aaron Rodgers with MVP-candidate Sam Darnold lacing up against the team that once drafted him.
3. Lions +1 3-1 Jared Goff set the NFL record for most passes in a game without an incompletion, going 18/18 for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns. Oh yeah, he also CAUGHT ONE. 4. Bills -2 3-1 Oh how the tides have turned. Not much went right for Buffalo in week 4 as they were pulverized by a hungrier Ravens team in a 35-10 blowout. Derrick Henry gave the Bills defense fits from the get-go, running for 87 yards on the first Ravens possession of the game, and finishing with 209 total scrimmage yards and 2 touchdowns. It wasn’t much better on the offensive side of the ball as the run game was stagnant all day and Josh Allen was plagued by long 3rd downs and a costly late fumble. Week 5 will be a good litmus test for the Bills when they take on the 3-1 Texans and try to right the ship.
5. Ravens +6 2-2 In a season where scoring is down massively the Ravens managed to put up 35 points without a major special teams play, -51 net penalty yards, forced 0 turnovers in Bills territory and completely took the air out of the ball with 11 minutes to go. Oh, and Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews, Isaiah Likely, and Rashod Bateman all combined for 3 catches. “Fuck throwing the ball!” -2x NFL MVP Lamar Jackson
6. Texans -1 3-1 Another week, another game with double digit penalties. If Laremy Tunsil is patient 0 of the flag epidemic, then I think it’s safe to say that it’s spreading through the O-Line as Kenyon Green found himself called 3 times on Sunday. The secondary continued to have their issues, letting multiple receivers get behind them for easy touchdowns…at least they would’ve been if Trevor Lawrence didn’t have the accuracy of a storm trooper. Yeah, they were able to get the win against a struggling Jacksonville team but if they can’t clean up their sloppiness quick, the Bills not going to be as forgiving.
7. Buccaneers +5 3-1 As a redditor, the only thing I know how to do is to make jokes about my misery instead of doing something to better myself. So you’d find that is quite unfortunate for my comedy career that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are actually having a pretty good season. There’s no reason to wallow in self pity. Other than the fact people keep saying there apparently was a game 8 days ago, this season is actually looking really good. For the first time in forever we are even part of a fake outrage created by the media and our QBs’ words are taken out of context! The defense is not breaking, the offense is potent, even Bowles looks happy! This really seems like a creation of a new-look Buccaneer squad. One who will forget all about the past and create a new culture. A culture where “It’s a Bucs life” means it’s a life where you create your own narratives. Where you don’t let others define you. Where other people’s expectation of you is not equal to your real worth. Because you know your worth. Because past trauma won’t define you. Because you are your own person, and damnit you are going to make the best out of it. So past failures be damned! It’s time we look toward the future, and our next game. On Thurs…day…night…football… against…the…Atlanta Falcon…s… Haha, yeah, this does not bring any memories. Nope haha none haha no past trauma here haha
8. 49ers +1 2-2
9. Seahawks -2 3-1 Well, the good news is that the offense continued to look like a whole new beast this week. Unfortunately, our defense may be one of those notorious paper tigers. Granted, we were missing a handful of starters, and lost even more as the game continued… But not forcing a single incompletion is brutal. Getting out to a 14-0 deficit early, the offense was playing catch-up all night. And they did an admirable job of it. DK had his third straight 100 yard game, which is a Seahawks record. Ryan Grubb stayed cooking, designing some awesome plays to move the ball. Ken Walker was an absolute animal in his return from the oblique injury, not only rushing for 3 touchdowns but also absolutely refusing to be taken down by the first guy no matter what. All in all, the team was down half a dozen defensive starters and kept things competitive. There is a lot to be excited about offensively, but defensively… wew.
10. Steelers -4 3-1 To recap the Steelers-Colts game, there were three major phases, which were the how the Colts gameplanned and executed, how the Steelers adjusted, and how bizarrely the refs officiated the game. First, the Colts. They came in with a gameplan that is the blueprint for how to beat the Steelers, which was a movement offense and defense. That stymied the Steelers. When the Colts were on offense, they absolutely sealed off JJ Watt. They moved whoever they needed to stop him, and they moved whoever they needed to the weak side to give them a chance to move the ball. And Jonathan Taylor was transcendent until the Steelers adjusted. On defense, they did a lot of stunts/crosses and late pressure or dropbacks. It was truly an inspired gameplan. Second was the halftime adjustments the Steelers made. Considering how good the Colts strategy was, it was just as impressive that the Steelers found a way to adjust on both sides of the ball. What the Colts did in the first half that worked, no longer did in the second half. That was pretty impressive. The third and final part of note were the flag football referees. They called the game as if it was flag football, because no matter which team made even the slightest contact, it was called. While the Colts got hurt by that, the Steelers were hurt more. Gene Steratore back at the NFL HQ in NYC is usually pretty sober, but during his commentary to Spero Dedes and Adam Archuleta, he continually expressed his incredulity at what was going on. While the Steelers should have won this game, credit where credit is due, the Colts team who took the Texans to the limit in Week 1 showed up again in Week 4. This is not a bad team, but an inconsistent one, something Steelers fans have known all too well for the past few years. As of late, the Steelers will beat the good teams and falter against the bad teams, but that’s not what happened here. Even if the bizarre calls are removed, the Colts played a very nice game and had every chance to hold on or respond if the Steelers had gone ahead. While the Steelers looked out of it by the end of the 1st quarter, the Colts never looked really beaten because they managed to hold on and ride it out. The Steelers learne…
