This show is basically like watchmen when it comes to the plot. The story begins in 1987 with the death of a prominent hero, in this case the superman expy called Marvelous Man who commits suicide he stopped WW3 and protected earth for 40 years, and soon after his death his widow comes out and says he was murdered, adding more fuel to the fire of rumors and conspiracies. Every country starts to point fingers at each other saying the other is responsible for the death of marvelous man and the world is at the threat of a nuclear holocaust. To stop that knighthawk, the Batman expy has to investigate and find out what or who really killed the marvelous man, and he ultimately realizes he has to investigate his own teammate to find out the truth and That’s where the similarities end because visually, the show is just crazy, using different kinds of animations including 80s video game style, DBZ style, 80s video game animation, claymation, and the DCAU style. You should know the context before watching it, as it’s part of the bootleg universe created by Adi Shankar, the producer of Dredd and Castlevania. Guardians of Justice deliberately aims to create a bootleg feel. Imagine if someone knew nothing about the Justice League and just wanted to create a rip-off, throwing in everything popular. For example, the Aquaman expy looks like Savage Dragon, Galactus is merged with Krang from TMNT, Spider-Man is a Power Ranger, and Nightwing is Rambo. There’s a lot of crazy stuff in this series, and it’s worth a watch if you’re looking for something unique. It’s sad this isn’t getting a second season—I would’ve loved to see other Justice League members getting parodied.
