I know some shows just age them up from the beginning (compared to the source material, making a kid a teenager). There is recasting to time jump forward, but what do you do when the kid out-ages the timeline?

Watching a show now where over a year has passed between seasons, but the plot has only been weeks. The child actor was already a 10 YO playing 7, but is now 12.

What are the options here? pick child actors with only short growth potential? avoid casting kids?

EDIT: if you are sharing a show that you think has done this well, can you please share how they have done this?
